intrahistoria

am reading a biography on the architect Gaudi, and found some interesting quotes that, in some ways, seem to relate to Duncan and H.D.

“the exotic and primitive had become an obsession of contemporary art too. Simultaneously with Gaudi’s design for the Casa Mila, the young Picasso was searching for inspiration from African masks and carvings.
But it was not just the visual arts that primitivism now reigned. The rise of Catalan culture meant a return to basics to find its essence…Underneath the skin of history lay what Unamuno had christened ‘intrahistoria’ — the essence.”

if we replace primitivism with occultism/spiritualism perhaps we get a connection — ‘intrahistoria’ seems compelling to me….

Here is a quote from Gaudi himself “Originality means going back to our origins.”
