Pau-Brasil is an innovative immersion program for teens and adults interested in learning Portuguese or improving their language skills, and learning first hand about Brazilian Culture through classes, workshops, and field-trips. Located in the lovely neighborhood of Ponta Negra, in Natal, Rio Grande do Norte, the school offers an intensive language and culture curriculum, as well as special programs for groups interested in specific subject areas: poetry, translation, environmental studies, percussion, popular dance, puppet theatre, visual arts, sculptural arts, soccer, photography, surfing, Northeastern music, popular arts—lace making, ceramics, weaving, construction of traditional Northeastern musical instruments. Language instructors are licensed educators and workshop facilitators are professionals in their disciplines. All field-trips are accompanied by local guides as well as program coordinators.

Program fees include transportation to and from the airport, hotel accommodations on field trips, living accommodations at the school, healthy breakfasts and lunches of regional dishes with plenty of vegetarian fare and light dinners. There are kitchen facilities for students to prepare other meals or snacks. The school is located in close proximity to bus lines, markets, restaurants and just a few blocks from the famous Ponta Negra beach. Accommodations are on site: four spacious bedrooms, a large kitchen, ample living room, quiet study room, swimming pool, and outdoor-garden space. Students share rooms (two to a room). There is a computer center complete with internet access and Skype. Students may arrive up to 3 days before program begins and stay up to 3 days after the program ends for a small daily fee.

July 2, Sunday: Opening Reception 4:00 – 8:00
July 3- July 6 and July 10-13, Monday thru Thursday:
Breakfast 7:30 – 8:30
Portuguese Class Beg./Int./Adv. 9:00 – 12:00
Lunch 12:00 – 1:00
Brazilian Culture: 2:00 -5:00
I, II, III –advanced and intermediate taught in Portuguese only; beginning combines English and Portuguese.
July 7 – July 8, & July 14-15, Friday-Saturday:
1st week Overnight Ecological Tour: Pedra da Boca
2nd week Overnight Ecological Tour: Mata da Estrela
July 9, Sunday:
Free time
July 16, Sunday: Closing Churrasco Party for Plan Saguís 2:00 – 8:00
July 17, Monday: Departure Saguís

Plan Bem-te-Vi
Everything included in Plan Sagüí plus:

July 21- July 24, Friday-Monday
4 day trip to the culturally rich cities of Recife and Olinda, located 4 hours from Natal. Workshops and city tours will introduce students to the rich musical culture of Pernambuco and the history of these two spectacular cities.
July 25- July 27 Tuesday-Thursday
Breakfast 7:30 – 8:30

July 29- July 30, Friday-Sunday
3 day trip to discover the Sertão and beaches of Ceará, with a trip to the city of Mossoró and the fishing villiage of Canoa Quebrada. Closing Party will take place in Canoa Quebrada and students will arrive in Natal Sunday evening.
July 31, Monday
Departure

Program Director José Roberto Frota, educator and photographer, has a B.A. in Geography from UC Berkeley and Post-graduate work in Environmental Studies Education from SENAC in Brazil. Program Coordinator Jennifer Sarah Frota is a writer, translator, flutist and ESL teacher, with a BA in English, Creative Writing and an MA in Comparative Literature, both from San Francisco State University.

    I´m so glad thaht you´re spreading Brazil all over your Blog.
    I just noticed this picture you put in this post and, it´s located in the city where I live.
    I just believe that you might know we´re in the opposite side of the city where this “Pau Brasil Program” is located.
    And it will be about… 9000 kilometers or 5625 miles away.
    Actually we´re the second turistic destination in Brazil, just behind Rio de Janeiro (maybe cause all international flights come to Rio )
