As many of you may or may not know, yesterday a very large Earthquake (confirmed 8.3) hit both of our home islands, Samoa & American Samoa. The village of Pago Pago (A.S. capitol) and the village of Leone have suffered the worst damage in American Samoa. As of 3 am this morning the confirmed loss of life is at 26, A large number of confirmed fatalities originating from the village of Leone. It is said that the damage in the island of Samoa is far worse than that of American Samoa. However, there have been no official reports coming out of Apia. If you are unable to donate at this time, please keep our families in your prayers.

In response, Samoan Solutions, will be collecting donations for the following items to be sent to both American Samoa & Samoa.

Tooth paste
Tooth brush
Lotion
Hand sanitizer
Bar soap
Lotion
Shampoo
Flash Light & Batteries
Sanitary Wipes

Boxes/Packets of:
Feminine hygiene products
Latex gloves
Band Aids (all sizes)
Zip lock bags (1gallon size)
Medical Gauze
Medical Tape
Granola/Trail Mix/Snack Bars (non perishable)
Crayons

Coloring Books (that can fit in 1 gallon size zip lock)
Or Small stuffed animal.

All of the received items will be divided into individual care kits that will be sent to help with relief support.

Our first shipment of care kits will be sent out this Saturday 10/3/09 , so we are asking that all items be turned in/dropped at drop locations by Friday 10/2/09 Morning 4pm. Samoan Solutions Members will assemble kits & they will be sent out Saturday morning via Hawaiian Air to American Samoa bound flight.

PLEASE NOTE: It is strongly preferred that those able, donate items and not monetary donations, however if you do make a monetary gift all monies will go towards purchasing items for the kits. All donations received after Friday will be sent in our next shipment (date TBA) In addition, all donations will not be tax deductable.

At this time we have not been able to establish a contact person in the island of Upolu. We will however still be assembling kits to be sent to Samoa as soon as possible.
