The winners of the Poets & Writers California Writers Exchange contest, poet Craig Santos Perez and fiction writer Sean Bernard, will introduce their work to New York City on March 14 at Hue-Man Bookstore at 3 p.m. Fourteen hundred emerging California writers entered the contest, which awarded the winners with a trip to New York to meet with members of the literary community. Craig Santos Perez, a native Chamoru originally from the Pacific Island of Guahan (Guam), won with poems selected from his collection from unincorporated territory [hacha] (Tinfish Press, 2008). Sean Bernard, who won with the short story “California,” works as an associate professor of writing at the University of La Verne and edits the literary journal Prism Review.
